Was able to switch everything around to have the ONT go into my router and then plug the ISP router into one of my LAN ports. I also talked to TDS support and they aren't trained on any of this stuff except that it exists. They don't even let me differentiate my 2.4 and 5 GHz networks and coverage is weaker. I really don't want to use their box exclusively. With the DMZ I was able to get the external IP for my router but no internet connection after that. Tried putting my router in DMZ to bypass everything. I'm having all kinds of issues and after 3 full days of fighting it. A restart of the router fixes it most of the time although today it broke again after a restart. I did DHCP IP reservation for the AP router too. This is mostly working but when I get home from work there is some IP issue and anything connected through the AP doesn't work. The second option put Nighthawk in Access Point mode and let their modem do the IP assignments but mine handle all the wifi (better range and features). It exists in the advanced options of their router but turning on the Port1 Bridging disables the internet for all ports. So I explore bridge mode to hand off and let my Nighthawk do the IP assignments. I am a big gamer so NAT is important in all this. I have a Netgear Nighthawk X4S that I REALLY like. To upgrade to the higher speed fiber with TV I have to use their router because the TV service needs it. I recently upgraded my TDS Telecom fiber service to 300 Mbps and it has totally screwed my home network. u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
